UNDER A HALO

I am under a halo. Or so it appears. But I guarantee you that everything isn't necessarily as it seems. If anything it is a somewhat ironic setting and an unfortunate angle. I am far from angelic. I am far from grand. Rather, I am understated. I am simple. Just like my sense of style.

COMING OF AGE

Despite living in denial this past year, it's time to accept that my 21st birthday is fast approaching. I still have just over a month until the big day, but that hasn't stopped me doing a lot of thinking about coming of age. I'm sure this will be a theme of future blog posts, however, I just wanted to touch upon while an experience is fresh in my mind.

I saw the movie 'Boyhood' last night. While the circumstances weren't always ones I could relate to, the story was. It follows a boy's life from pre-school to adulthood. Naturally, it made me reflect upon my own life experiences. I realised that I've been unnecessarily dreading turning 21, for the fear that makes me somehow a 'real' adult. Growing up is inevitable. I need to welcome it open arms; let go of my preconceived ideas and expectations; take advantage of the new opportunities that age and experience presents; and realise that 'coming of age' is not something that will happen on my birthday, but rather it's just another name for the life-long journey we all are on.

RUSH HOUR

Feeling like it's forever rush hour. I know that it is definitely the pointy end of the uni semester. Assessment is a plenty, only it's a shame the same can't be said for the hours in each day. I could easily just follow down this path of stress and study, which would guarantee myself a miserable few months. A past version of myself would have chosen that option for the sake of good grades. But currently, my focus is on balance. Escaping the rush to make time for the things I enjoy. And sometimes that means putting on my favourite heels (I know this blog as seen too much of them recently) and spending time with my favourite people.

BE FINE

Here's a slightly more mature take on my staple, monochrome outfit. I say slightly because I'm still wearing a spiked, dog-collar-esque necklace (some things will never change). You see, often a girl just needs to edge up an outfit, otherwise she risks looking too refined and too proper. Especially when she's wearing a midi-skirt. Though - a quick, and not-so-cheap, word of advice - midi-skirts can very quickly lose their librarian association if they're tight and leather. Yet can still offer an air of sophistication because of their length. Just be sure to pair it with heels, and you'll be fine.

BLACK WIDOW

Hello darkness, my old friend. And hello to a new friend, this Viparo piece. I have never seen anything like it, but I just knew it would be love at first wear. Excluding the fact that it is black, this top encompasses three of my favourite things: leather, cropped and sleeves. It's the perfect item to wear in an all black ensemble because of the variety of textures.

And let's not overlook the power of the mesh back. It's fun, flirty and breaks up all the black. It's no overstatement to say that in this outfit I feel powerful and fearless - basically, what I really mean is, this get up makes me a superhero. Permission to call me Black Widow granted.
