STAPLE DIET

Despite supposedly being in the thick of winter, my everyday outfits have been a lot like this. No layers. No scarves. No gloves. No hats. No stockings. In wardrobe terms, it has been a very staple diet. While I'm usually singing praise for dressing simply, I have missed the extra accessorising that typically comes with winter. With this unusually warm weather, it's difficult enough to find a day cool enough to wear long sleeves and trousers.

OFF DUTY

The blogging world is abuzz with this latest "Off Duty" blogger challenge thanks to the fashion label Somedays Lovin, Arrow Divine jewellery and Shambhala Byron Bay. So here it is, my off duty outfit. I know for many of you it may appear a little more 'on duty' than the other bloggers' looks (which you can find on Instagram with #somedaysoffduty), but let me explain.

As a university student, I am constantly reading (and reading and reading...) so I find myself spending more than an acceptable amount of time in sweatpants and oversized t-shirts. When I'm away from my studies- and as a law student, that's very rare- I want nothing more to be a little glamorous. When I'm off duty: I am dolling myself up, throwing on a pair of heels, a short skirt, and a bold blouse, and hitting the town.

NOTHING SPECIAL

I figure the title pretty much sums this one up. Somedays the weather is neither sunny nor raining. Somedays the day's events are neither good nor bad. Somedays the way you feel is neither up nor down. Somedays your motivation is neither here nor there. And somedays the outfit you wear is nothing special. Today was one of those days.

BACK TO IT

It has been a little while since I wore my 'uniform'- an entirely monochrome outfit. But have no fear. I am back to it. There's nothing easier, nor more stylish, than a well put together black and white combination. Staple pieces (like this vintage leather pencil skirt) and trend buys (think of a leopard print t-shirt for example) work so seamlessly when you're not distracted by clashing of colours or prints.

Purely black and white tones can add a level of class that an outfit would have otherwise lacked. After all, I am just wearing an oversized printed t-shirt- something easily worn just lounging about at home. However, make it monochrome and team it with a sleek skirt and heels, and it very quickly becomes something much more sophisticated.

BETTER TOGETHER

Here it is. My first 'twosie'. A little late to the trend, but better late then never. I think I speak for everyone when I say that to have only one item in this lily palm leaf print would be absurd- criminal even! Okay... perhaps not everyone thinks that. For all you 'reasonable' people out there who think it's excessive, don't worry, your logic has not escaped me. You would be pleased to hear that despite my love and appreciation for all things matching, I am not converted and will not be updating my entire wardrobe to coordinating tops and bottoms. After all, this is twosie perfection- nothing goes better together.

WICKED IMAGERY

Don't worry. I too have no idea what is happening in the graffiti behind me. It appears to be an evil version of the classic movies 'A Bugs Life' (Google it), though I still can't be quite sure. Regardless, this is why I love street art and, now that I think about it, art more generally. It allows you to witness other people's imagination. To view an iota of how they think, feel, and view the world. Irrespective of how wicked the imagery may be, today I had an invaluable experience. I got to see a snippet of how (insert graffiti artist's name here) mind works. And that is a beautiful thing.
