DIRT CHEAP

We all need at least one of those pieces in our closet. Something that was dirt cheap- perhaps bought on a whim- and yet we cherish it more than some of our expensive items. For me, the polkadot blouse is that piece (so I have two). It goes with everything. It dresses up. It dresses down. It's there when I don't know what to wear. And quite simply, my wardrobe would feel incomplete without it.

BREAKING IT UP

As mentioned in a post earlier this year (here), monochrome outfits have become my go to. But like anything, there can be too much of a good thing. And so on the odd occasion I don't mind breaking up all the black and white (and grey) with some bursts of colour. We all need a little more fun and brightness in our lives.

NECK MINUTE

Accessories. They take a second to put on and can make or break an outfit, and yet I don't talk much about them on this blog. I think it's because I tend to shy away from accessories for the fear of overdoing them. So I'm glad in recent seasons that necklaces in particular have adopted a 'bigger is better' complex. The louder, the prouder, the more colourful often equates to the more fashionable (so long as you keep it simple with the other, non-neckwear accessories). And so I figured I would show you three different necklace styles- each a statement in their own right- and each creating a complete outfit on this otherwise blank, staple dress.

NEUTRAL TONES

Things that are never going out of style. Neutral tones. Satchel bags. Intricately patterned scarves. While the combination of all three can allude to a preppy style (that I know isn't for everyone)- for me personally, I find nothing wrong with a more refined look on occasion. These more 'toned down' looks with less prints and patterns and textures and colours and noise, give you space to breathe (fashion wise). You're not having to live up to the loud personality of your sequin jacket, or the swagger of the houndstooth trousers. You can just wear these more neutral outfits without the concern of the outfit wearing you.

NEW UNIFORM

Change is undeniable. Maturity on the other hand... You see, since I started this blog my taste in fashion and personal style has changed. I would say 'matured,' but you might say 'toned down' or 'become boring.' This, what you see here (or at least something like it), has become my new uniform- my new 'go to'. It consists of a lot of black, some brown, a liberal dash of grey marle, and just a pinch of white (I'm still a little wary of wearing a lot of white). That's not to say I've cleared out all of the fun, bright, patterned pieces from my closet (there's still plenty of occasions for them), but just that I've taken a more classic approach on days when I don't know what to wear.

BRIGHT MORNINGS

Two things that every girl should have. A dress with stripes and a colourful scarf. (Need I say more?)
One thing a girl should never do. Take photos early in the morning. Apologies for the dazed and confused look- I am not a morning person.

2013 Rewind

Being the first day of 2014- happy new year y'all- it only seems appropriate to look back and pay our respects to 2013. Through this blog I was given some mind-blowing opportunities, but more importantly I felt that this blog allowed me to grow and express a little more of my personal, creative side. So to reflect, rewind, and bathe in a little nostalgia of the year that was, I have chosen my 20 favourite outfits of the past 365 days. It seems suiting (or fitting, and other clothes related puns) to do this for my 20th year in existence.
